The Swedish wireless communications specialist connectBlue has announced a low-energy Bluetooth module based on the latest Bluetooth specification (4.0). It predicts that the OLP425 module will open up applications that were not possible using earlier wireless technologies, and will allow smartphones to be used as HMIs, gateways and data acquisition devices.

The module can be delivered with digital and analogue GPIOs (general-purpose input/outputs) or with batteries, temperature sensors, accelerometers and humidity sensors. The 4.0 Bluetooth specification is already being incorporated in some smartphones and offers long battery lives and fast connection times. The new connectBlue module allows users to embed their own software for applications such as machine/device access, asset management, data conversion, data acquisition and logic.
