Multi-axis module simplifies motion control

Mitsubishi Electric has added a “simple motion module” to its Melsec L series of positioning modules. The new module provides advanced functions such as speed and torque control, using simple parameter settings.

The module supports linear interpolation of up to four axes, circular interpolation of two axes, fixed feed control and continuous orbit control. Users only need to set the positioning addresses and speeds from within a sequence program.

Auxiliary functions such as M codes, step operation, skip and target position change are available. Synchronous control and cam control are included, and can be combined. There is a built-in mark detection signal interface.

The module is compatible with a library of function blocks based on PLCopen motion control specifications. The library includes single- and multi-axis functions, providing a standard command set that optimises the set-up, even of complex motion tasks, thus reducing development, maintenance and support costs.

The motion module simplifies system set-ups by using parameter settings instead of motion programming. Positioning control is executed using a data table, with the positioning data set using functions such as automatic command speed calculation, offline simulation, and automatic calculation of auxiliary arcs. Synchronous control is implemented just with parameter settings, while cams can be set without worrying about electronic cam controls.
