Blackberry app calculates motor savings

21 January, 2011

The Brazilian motor-maker WEG has developed an app for Blackberry phones which allows motor users to calculate energy savings, returns on investment and reductions in CO2 emissions – and to create reports on the motors in their organisations. The app offers a choice of kW or hp units, and supports the Euro, US dollars or sterling as default currencies, with other currencies available via a “custom” function. In addition, coefficients for CO2 emissions are provided for coal, oil natural gas and other fuels.

The app can be used to compare payback times for premium and standard-efficiency motors and to assess the running costs of existing motors to determine the payback times if they were replaced by more efficient types. Users can also compare the payback time for a new motor against the cost of rewinding, following a motor failure.

The Blackberry app complements WEG’s motor Payback Tool which is also downloadable from its Web site.
