Drag-and-drop software configures safety system

21 December, 2010

Rexroth has announced a modular safety system for use on small machines and in small plants. The programmable SafeLogic Compact system consists of a safety CPU, I/Os, relays and interface modules and is planned, programmed and commissioned using dedicated graphical software.

The system complies with SIL3/PLe. Safety devices and IndraDrive drives with safety functions can be connected directly, while Profinet and Profibus modules can be used to exchange control and status information between standard and safety controls. Up to four SafeLogic controllers can be networked to exchange safety data.

To configure an installation, the user assigns sensors and actuators to I/O by dragging and dropping them from a software library in the SafeLogic Designer application (shown above). A function block library allows simple, standards-compliant graphical wiring, while offline simulation helps to verify and troubleshoot applications. A reporting function is available for creating documentation.
