Diagonal fans cut enclosure cooling costs by 43%

The enclosure giant Rittal claims to have cut enclosure ventilation energy consumption by 43% by introducing a diagonal fan technology that combines radial and axial ventilation. In a six-week long trial, the new system ran for 40% less time to achieve the same cooling effect as a conventional fan-and-filter system

In the new TopTherm fan-and-filter systems (shown above), the air emerges diagonally to the exterior, producing an even distribution of air in the enclosure and avoiding hotspots. The new system is also said to provide a larger and more consistent airflows over a wide area, thus prolonging the operating lives of filter mats.

The new ventilators are installed without tools and allow the airflow direction to be changed quickly. They are available with outputs from 20–700m3/h and in operating voltages of 24V DC, and 115V, 230V and 400V AC.
