Brevini and PIV mesh together in the UK

Following last year`s acquisition of the German gear-maker PIV Drives by the Italian Brevini group, their UK activities have been brought together under the control of Guiseppe Galli, general manger of Brevini`s UK operation.

PIV`s UK business, Posiva Drives, will remain at its base in Scunthorpe, Lincolnshire, but will, in future, trade as PIV Drives UK. Brevini is based at a new purpose-built facility in Warrington.

Galli describes the coming together of the companies as "good news" for their customers. "The complementary product ranges offered by the two companies means that we are able to offer solutions to a wider range of industrial power transmission applications," he says. "We will be able to provide the latest concepts in gear technology to solve the most complex of drive problems cost effectively".

Brevini`s key strength is in planetary gearboxes, while PIV produces helical, bevel, bevel helical and spiral bevel boxes.

Brevini Riduttori`s acquisition of PIV is forecast to boost its share of the European gear market to around 5%, and its number of employees to 850-900.
