SymCom buys SSAC from ABB

18 June, 2010

The American motor and pump controls manufacturer SymCom has acquired ABB’s US-based Solid State Advanced Controls (SSAC) business, which produces low-voltage electronic controls. ABB has owned SSAC since 2001 when it took control of the Entrelec group.

Symcom says that the acquisition will expand its operations within and beyond the 35 countries that it currently serves, making it a leader in electrical and electronic control products.

“SymCom plans to substantially expand its worldwide business with a solid line of electronic control and protection products,” says the company’s president, Kip Larson. “This acquisition will enable our company to quickly expand our product offerings within domestic and international markets.”

Since 1974, SymCom has specialised in electronic control and protection design and manufacturing with a portfolio that includes current and voltage monitors, motor and pump controls, and custom electronic controls. Its brand names include MotorSaver and PumpSaver and its products provide protection, communications, and control for most types and sizes of motors and pumps. SymCom also manufactures load sensors, alternating relays, intrinsically-safe relays, software, and custom control boards.

Since 1985, SSAC has offered electronic control systems for a variety of commercial and industrial uses. SymCom says that the combined operations will be able to solve most electrical motor and control problems.
