Omron motors up the M1 to new Milton Keynes HQ

Omron`s new UK headquarters and technology centre in Milton Keynes has been opened officially by Fumio Tateisi, Omron`s executive vice-president and a member of the company`s founding family.

Omron`s UK automation operation was previously based in North London where its warehouse it will remain. The new, purpose-built headquarters includes a Technology Plaza where customers will be able to see Omron`s technology in action. The company expects four or five customers to visit the facility every day.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Nick Ferriday, managing director of Omron`s UK operation, said that it marked "an important event in Omron`s continuing investment and development in the UK".

Ferriday added that a key objective of the new facility was to create an environment "where industry can explore the opportunity provided by innovations in technology". This requirement influenced the layout of the new premises and its operating philosophy which is "deliberately relaxed", allowing customers to visit at times that suit them.

"For manufacturing in the UK to be truly competitive," Ferriday remarked, "we have to look at how we can be innovative in all that we do, and therefore must be in a position to evaluate the benefits that emerging technology can provide to our businesses".
