As an alternative to conventional signal towers with their fixed lighting patterns, the German industrial signalling specialist Werma has developed a LED-based system which allows users to choose any of seven colours for each of the three stages and to reconfigure them at any time via DIP switches. All three stages can display the same colour, if required.

Normally, the VarioSign tower (below) blends into the background with its colourless, translucent housing, but when triggered, it displays its selected colours in a steady or flashing mode. The LEDs can be seen from one or two sides.

In addition to the seven-colour version (offering users a choice of red, yellow, green, blue, clear, violet or turquoise colours), there are other versions of the LED signal tower with fixed colours, or offering a choice restricted to “classic” red, yellow or green colours.

As an option, the towers can include an buzzer with a sound output of more than 85dB.
