UK’s first IECEx repairs certificate goes to Middlesborough

17 December, 2008

Dowding & Mills has received the UK’s first IECEx certificate covering the repair and overhaul of rotating machines for use in explosive atmospheres. The global certification scheme was launched last year by the IEC.

The certificate is designed to give OEMs and end-users confidence that repair workshops are operating in accordance with strict technical and quality requirements, laid down by the IEC.

The first UK certificate, issued to D&M’s Midddlesborough branch by the UK certification body Baseefa, covers the repair and overhaul of flameproof “d”, increased safety “e” and non-sparking “n” machines in accordance with IEC 60079-19:2006 and the IECEx Certified Service Facility Scheme.

“We believe that the IECEx Certified Service Facility Certificate of Conformity will soon become a requirement for all repairers of Ex equipment,” says Dowding & Mills’ technical director, John Allen. “It will also go on to become a pre-qualification for acceptance as third-party repairers for users of Ex equipment.

“The IECEx CoC for a service facility will become more important than an ISO 9000 QMS,” Allen predicts.
