All control functions are programmed in one language

09 July, 2008

The German motion controls specialist Jetter has unveiled a new generation of controllers that integrates all automation functions in a single system using a single programming language. The JX3 range includes three similar-sized controllers for systems ranging in size from three to 64 axes, and uses the same high-level, structured-text programming language for PLC, point-to-point positioning and path control functions. The controllers can handle all conventional types of motor, and use the same communications medium for all controller and remote I/O duties.

Jetter JX3 controllers

The three 50mm-wide controllers handle three, eight or 64 axes, with the high-end version offering integrated path control. Jetter says that the availability of three similar controllers with varying capacities will make it easier to expand or enhance machine designs.

Jetter IO modules

There are various digital, analogue and temperature I/O expansion modules (shown above), all 25mm wide and each having their own backplane which snaps onto a DIN rail. Installations of up to 256 digital/ I/O can be configured.

The main communications medium is Ethernet TCP/IP, with each controller having two Ethernet ports with a two-port switch that allows star or line networks to be configured. The controllers also have CAN and serial interfaces.
