Record-breaker makes tracks for Telford

Plans for the Drives & Controls Exhibition`s return to Telford are taking shape, and an exciting programme of seminars, workshops and visitor attractions is being finalised.

A certain crowd-puller will be the UK-developed e=motion battery-powered vehicle (above) which is due to make a bid for the world land speed record for electric vehicles in Tunisia in June. The e=motion team are confident that the sleek vehicle - which already holds the UK record - will improve on the current world record of almost 400km/h, and could even top 480km/h (300mph).

The Telford exhibition centre has undergone a dramatic revamp since the Drives show was last there in 2000. More than £9m has been spent on upgrading the facilities and transforming the site from a sportshall that was used for exhibitions, into a dedicated, world-class exhibition and conference centre.

The venue - now known as the International Centre Telford -- has 11,600m² of exhibition space and a new conference and banqueting suite for up to 1,300 delegates. A second hotel with 100 bedrooms is being built on the site, adding to the 150 bedrooms already available in the Holiday Inn.

The Drives and Controls Show will occupy two of the site`s three halls, with the third hosting a brand-new show dedicated to the compressed air industry. AirTech Expo 2004 will cover developments in the generation, management, treatment and distribution of compressed air.

The AirTech show is being sponsored by BCAS (the British Compressed Air Society) and is being organised by Highpoint Exhibitions, which also runs the Drives & Controls Exhibition.

In the Drives show itself, a special attraction will be an area dedicated to Italian companies and organisations involved in the motion control industry.

Exhibitors already signed up for the Drives & Controls Exhibition include Aerotech, Control Techniques, Hitachi, HMK, Lenze, SEW Eurodrive and Wyko.
