Compact drives handle 150% overloads
At the 2008 Hannover Fair, Yaskawa unveiled a new generation of small basic drives to replace its Varispeed mini J7 series. The new J1000 drives are designed to be used with asynchronous motors rated from 0.1–5.5kW. Yaskawa expects to sell 30,000 of the new inverters this year, and 60,000 in 2009.
The RoHS-compliant drives (above) offer V/f control and can handle a 120% overload for 60s (normal duty), or 150% for 60s (heavy duty). They can deliver 100% torque at 1.5Hz and 150% at 3Hz.
The drives incorporate transistors for dynamic braking, allowing them to be used for simple hoisting applications. A variable carrier frequency function reduces noise levels, while stall prevention and speed search functions prevent unnecessary tripping.
The drives are available in 200/400V three-phase and 200V single-phase versions, while 100V single-phase versions are planned. The compact drives – the largest of which measures 108 x 128 x 154mm – can be mounted side-by-side.
