ABB re-organises motors into three families
At the 2008 Hannover Fair, ABB announced that it was reorganising its motors portfolio into three families: machines with Eff2 efficiency ratings for standard applications; and high-efficiency motors for industrial and for process applications. The motors in the industrial and process families will meet or exceed the European Eff1 efficiency criterion, the EPAct specification in the US, and the MEPS2 level in Australia.
At the same time, ABB announced a new generation of high-efficiency motors in ratings from 0.06–95kW, and frame sizes from 56–250. The motors (shown above) have been designed for improved reliability and durability, resulting in lower lifecycle costs. To achieve this, for example, the cooling systems have been redesigned. The motors include models with aluminium, steel and cast-iron frames.
