ATB restructures to tackle the project motor market

10 April, 2008

The Austrian motor-maker ATB has restructured its operations and appointed David Schumacher, formerly managing director of its UK subsidiary, ATB Laurence Scott, to its management board. Schumacher has been given responsibility for a new project motor division, which includes ATB’s Morley/McClure, Schorch and Sever subsidiaries, as well as Laurence Scott.

Schumacher says that the re-organisation will make ATB "a dominant player in the global project motor market". The members of the new division had a combined turnover last year of more than €140m.

Christian Schmidt, chief operating officer of ATB’s parent, A-Tec Industries, says that Schumacher’s appointment "will ensure that the UK remains integral to ATB’s success".

Following Schumacher’s promotion, Ian Atkins, previously head of operations at ATB Laurence Scott, is taking over as MD at the Norwich-based high-voltage motor manufacturer. Barry Scales, formerly head of sales, has been promoted to sales director, while David Harvey, former head of engineering, is the new technical director. Ian Walker has been promoted from financial controller to financial director.

Since ATB bought Laurence Scott & Electromotors from administration in June 2007, cashflow has been strengthened in the business and a double-digit EBIT (earnings for interest and tax) margin has been achieved. The company’s order book at the start of 2008 stood at £16.7m.
