Remote machine access avoids security complexities

A Belgian engineering company has launched an Internet service that provides broadband and wireless access to machines at remote sites. ACT’L says that its Talk to Machines (Talk2M) service will allow users to communicate with remote machines without needing to change the network security at either end, making deployment easy while hiding the complexity of the IT infrastructure.
The system will work with a wide range of serial- or Ethernet-based PLCs from suppliers such as Siemens, Rockwell, Schneider and Omron.
At the remote site, the existing Ethernet LAN infrastructure and Internet connections are used making on-site devices accessible from anywhere in the world. The system uses GPRS/Edge connections and standard SIM cards.
