Parker SSD invests £500,000 in Littlehampton site

16 February, 2008

Parker SSD Drives – formerly Eurotherm Drives – has invested almost £500,000 in production facilities at its headquarters in Littlehampton, West Sussex. The investment has mainly gone into two high-speed surface-mount lines, and ensuring that its manufacturing processes comply with the RoHS directive.

The new surface-mount lines (shown above) are producing control cards and power boards for Parker SSD’s AC, DC and servo drives. They are controlled from a central computer system that enables each batch to be set up and managed efficiently, minimising set-up times, and bringing greater flexibility with less wastage.

According to Roy Stout, manager of the Littlehampton plant, the new lines have improved uptime by around 70%, and allowed the company to cut its product delivery times. "It is our customers who will really benefit from this new investment," he says, "as it is already allowing us to deliver 99.8% of all customer orders on or before the customer request date."

Parker SSD is also relaunching its products in Parker’s global grey-and-gold colour scheme. The new scheme is being phased in gradually for existing products and will be standard for all new products.
