German ballscrew supplier sets up shop in the UK

02 December, 2007

The German ballscrew manufacturer August Steinmeyer has formed a UK company, Steinmeyer UK, with the parent company’s co-owner and international sales manager, Alexander Beck, as managing director, and George Partington as sales director. The move to form a limited company comes a year after Steinmeyer set up its UK operation.

"The UK is an important market for our products," says Beck. "Forming Steinmeyer UK proves our commitment to our customers in the UK. In our first year since the official opening of our UK subsidiary, we have seen our turnover in the UK grow by a massive 60% and we have high expectations for 2008."

"Customer feedback on our UK operation has been very positive over the last year," adds Partington. "This is why we have taken the step to officially register a limited company in the UK. We can respond much quicker and assist with the applications, many of which require a lot of expert input from our engineers.

As well as selling ballscrews, the new company will be supplying precision mechanical stages and gauging equipment made by Steinmeyer’s FMD subsidiary.

In Germany, Steinmeyer has recently opened a new manufacturing area in Albstadt, adding around 4,000m2 to its shopfloor and logistics areas. The decision to extend the factory was taken after five years of double-digit percentage growth, and mounting workflow problems.

"Demand for our products has continuously increased and we have simply outgrown the existing manufacturing facility", reports Beck. "With the new plant online, we are now able to make the quality products our customers expect and are working towards reducing lead times once all of the new production capacity becomes available."

Some 50 new jobs have been created at the site, increasing the total number of Steinmeyer employees in Germany to 400.
