£4,000 prizes up for grabs in plastic bearings contest

If you are based in the UK or Ireland and have an innovative idea for using plastic bearings, you could win yourself a prize worth up to £2,500 in a competition organised by igus (UK). The competition, called manus - from the Latin for "hand" - is designed to promote new and original ways of using plastic bearings, as well as raising awareness about the benefits of these bearings.

There will be three cash prizes - £2,500, £1,000 and £500 - as well as statuettes and certificates, for the best three entries submitted by the closing date of 31 August.

Entrants must submit a short description of how they are using all-plastic or plastic compound bearings, with photos or technical drawings. They must also describe the benefits of using the plastic bearings. The winners will be announced at the Design Engineering Show in Birmingham in September.

Details can be found at www.manus-igus.co.uk or by calling Nikki Groom on (44) 01604 490000
