º  ABB is offering an optional three-year extended warranty on its drives sold in the UK. The warranty – costing 12% of a drive’s list price – can be bought either at the same time as the drive, or separately within six months of buying the drive.

º  The electromechanical service and repair company Qrotek has renamed itself Technical Solutions 24 Seven and created a new motor control products division to be run by Andy Donaldson, formerly with Crompton Controls. The changes coincide with the company`s Midlands branch moving to a larger, purpose-built factory in Stoke-on-Trent, with more space for stock and panel-building operations.

º  Brammer has embarked on a programme to replace all of the motors at its national distribution centre in Wolverhampton with high-efficiency Eff1 types. The motors include many that drive the £10m centre’s conveyors.

º  The Ludlow-based distributor BYPY Hydraulics & Transmissions has been bought by SST, whose major shareholders are BYPY’s managing director, Ian Teece, and sales director, Richard Salisbury.

º  Bolger Engineering, the Shannon-based precision engineering company, is investing more than £2m to help it meet its growing order book. The company has doubled in size since 2005, with sales growing by 65% in 2005 and 44% last year. Exports, many of them to Northern Ireland, account for 87% of sales.
