Siemens gets to grips with materials handling

05 July, 2007

Siemens Automation & Drives has set up a UK division dedicated to the needs of materials-handling customers. The new Material Handling Division will provide advice and support to three target sectors: airports and transport; logistics; and aggregates, reclamation and recycling.

A dedicated team of ten will be led by Siemens’ low-voltage business manager, Andrew Peters, and supported by four field engineers. The team will provide support for customers on key issues such as legislative changes, efficiency, and maintainability.

"Over the past decade, industry has gone through immense change and customers have been left bewildered at the various offerings available within the market place," says Peters. "At Siemens, we have recognised that our customers require a more specialist service offering, with expert materials-handling knowledge and experience. Our dedicated team will ensure that our customers receive the best possible service and solutions for their business."

Siemens’ 2005 acquisition of the Flender gears business allows it to offer most of the elements in the materials handling chain, from the mechanical gearing and coupling components, through to sensors, control systems, communications and software.
