"We spent a long time researching customer needs and analysing their wish-lists," says managing director, Keith Hedges. "The result is the first genuinely universal servomotor – a stronger motor with more performance options, more fitting and control options, easy upgrade and swap-out, and UL-approved."

The low-inertia motors have high peak torque ratings, allowing smaller motors than usual to be used in some applications. The IP65-rated machines are said to be at least 50% stronger for both radial and axial loads than their predecessors, while shaft strengths and stiffness have been tripled.

There is a choice of feedback options including: incremental encoders with 2,048 or 4,096 counts; rugged resolvers; optical sin/cos (absolute and non-absolute) encoders for high-resolution applications; and low-resolution inductive sin/cos absolute encoders. A wide range of pitch circle diameters is available to meet standard IEC and Nema configurations.

"We believe that Unimotor FM is a world beater," says Hedges "and this is just the first in a series of products we have under development".
