Eaton buys SMC’s MV drives technology

18 May, 2007

The US-based Eaton Corporation has bought SMC Electrical Products’ medium-voltage variable frequency drive technology and related assets. The terms for the deal have not been disclosed.

"This acquisition complements Eaton’s already strong position as a manufacturer of MV motor control products," says Randy Carson, a senior Eaton vice-president, and president of its electrical group. "By incorporating this product into our power distribution and control assemblies portfolio, we will be able to provide our customers with a comprehensive solution to address their motor starting needs."

Last year, Eaton Corporation’s sales amounted to $12.4bn. The corporation has 61,000 employees and sells products to customers in more than 125 countries.
