Sell your excess capacity via the Web

A new Web site aims to introduce engineering companies with excess capacity to those that need jobs to be done. So, for example, if a CNC machining company has machines sitting idle, it can advertise this on the site - www.capacitytrader.com - where other companies in need of machining work can search for the best deals.

"This will revolutionise the way that engineering companies do business," predicts Andy Priscott, co-founder and director of the new enterprise. "They will be able to sell their excess capacity at marginal cost, keeping their machines running and producing profit. Buyers from all over Britain will be able to purchase the capacity, realising better prices than, perhaps, they would otherwise have done."

In a similar way to Ebay, the new site will give an indication of the quality of both sellers and buyers. "The purchasers can rank the quality of the service that they have received from the engineering companies, and the companies providing the service can rank the purchaser," explains CapacityTrader`s other director, Barry Lomas.

Priscott and Lomas are planning to set up similar sites in other countries, with an international site sitting across the top for global players. "We are already being approached by a number of very big companies who wish to use the service," says Priscott.

Earlier this year, Priscott and Lomas, who previously worked with the Engineering Forum, set up The Incubation Factory to help engineering and manufacturing businesses to benefit from "new and inspirational concepts".
