Siemens creates motors JV in China

01 December, 2005

Siemens Automation and Drives is forming a joint venture with the Chinese motor manufacturer, Jiangsu Beide Electrical Machinery Corporation, to develop and build small and mid-sized low-voltage motors, mainly for the Chinese market. Siemens hopes the new venture, Siemens Standard Motor Ltd (SSML), will become the leader of the Chinese market for medium-price LV motors. The Chinese LV motors market is worth around €700m and is growing by about 5% a year.

The new business will employ about 1,500 people. Klaus Helmrich, head of Siemens` standard drives division, describes the JV is "an important step" which will allow the company to provide locally manufactured products for complete drives chains - inverters, motors and gearboxes.
