01 March, 2005

ISA - the Instrumentation, Systems, and Automation society - has set up a committee to create standards, recommend practices, and produce reports, that will define procedures for implementing field-level wireless systems for automation and control.

Technologies to be covered by the ISA-SP100 committee include:

• field sensors for monitoring, control, alarms and shutdowns;

• wireless technologies, including those providing real-time field-to-business links; and

• discrete parts manufacturing, and fluid and materials processing.

Committee members have been drawn from end-users are well as suppliers and include representatives from BP, Emerson, Endress+Hauser, Honeywell, Invensys and Shell.
