IMI is buying the Swiss firm, Fluid Automation Systems (FAS), which will become part of its Norgren group. FAS, which operates from two sites near Geneva, specialises in miniature solenoid valves and had a turnover last year of £23.1m. The company employs 263 people.

Most of FAS` existing sales are for 10mm and 15mm valves, making it a good fit with Norgren`s existing solenoid valve ranges which cater for sizes 22mm and above.
