GE Fanuc expansion strategy hits new heights

01 June, 2003

GE Fanuc Automation has bought the Wisconsin-based Mountain Systems, which develops and supplies MES (manufacturing execution systems) technology for the discrete manufacturing and process industries. Lloyd Trotter, president and chief executive of GE Industrial Systems, says the acquisition will expand GE`s information and control offerings and will help customers to improve quality, cut costs and comply with regulations.

Mountain Systems` Proficy for Manufacturing software includes configurable applications to manage quality, efficiency and production. It is aimed at industries including packaged goods, food and beverage, pulp and paper, automotive and life sciences.

Jeff Garwood, president and chief executive of GE Fanuc Automation, says the acquisition will extend his company`s growing capabilities in the automation environment. "Combining Proficy with our industry-leading HMI/SCADA and intelligent production management software products, reinforces our commitment to delivering real productivity to customers," he declares.

• GE Industrial Systems has completed its acquisition of UK-based SI Pressure Instruments from Hill & Smith. The business will become part of the GE Druck operation based in Leicester, UK, which is itself part of GE Industrial`s Systems Measurement business. SI Pressure Instruments` products include measurement systems, digital indicators and monitoring and control software. The acquisition is in line with GE`s aim to expand it presence in the $60bn global sensors and instrumentation industry.
