US motion group acquires NEE Controls

US-based Cleveland Motion Controls (CMC) has bought the multi-axis motion control specialist NEE Controls - formerly known as North East Electronics - which has bases in Gateshead, Tyne & Wear, and in Ohio, US.

NEE will join CMC`s Burny division and will, in particular, help it to service the shape-cutting industry. The acquisition "yields a combined 80 years of experience in the shape-cutting and motion control industry, and allows us immediately to extend our product range, expand our distribution channels, and enter many new market segments," says Steve Giordano, the Burny division`s business manager.

NEE, which previously described itself as the UK`s largest independent motion control manufacturer, was founded in 1974 by John Perkin. In 1995, Perkin moved to the US to form NEE Controls Inc.

There are more than 10,000 of the NEE`s multi-axis AMC machine controllers in use around the world, mainly in CNC applications such as routing, engraving and milling. The company`s most recent controller, the AMC-E (shown above), is aimed at OEMs and can control steppers or servos. NEE also provides supporting software.

CMC - a division of Motion Control Inc - produces equipment including motors, drives, numerical controls, torque systems, and web tension products. Its Burny division focuses on the shape- and metal-cutting industries.
