Place your bids on line for drives and PLCs

01 September, 2001

Mitsubishi Electric claims to be the first global automation supplier to offer surplus stock for sale via an internet auction site. The company`s North American operation is selling items including variable speed drives and PLCs at "deep discounts" on the eBay Web site.

Scott Whitsitt, manager of Mitsubishi`s North American internet business, says that the items are all in perfect condition and carry a full 12-month warranty. "They are simply older models which have been replaced by newer technologies," he explains. While newer models may offer more functions, the products being auctioned meet the needs of most applications, Whitsitt adds.

Mitsubishi is planning to add servomotors and industrial sewing machines to the products on offer.

Mitsubishi`s UK operation has no immediate plans to follow suit but deputy manager Steve Jones says that the on-line auction "sounds like a sensible move".
