• The US cable supplier Anixter International has made a bid for Infast, the UK-based distributor of fasteners and other OEM components, that values it at around £40m. Infast, which sold the last of its manufacturing operations earlier this year, has 25 distribution centres in the UK and 6 in the US and employs about 900 people. The offer is subject to certain conditions including a minimum acceptance of 90%.

• Universal Balancing, the supplier of component balancing systems, has taken over the Birmingham-based control system specialist, BTD - a former sister company - and transferred the business to its Kingswood headquarters in Bristol.
