• Renu Electronics, an Indian HMI developer which brand-labels its products for global automation suppliers, has set up a UK operation in Birmingham to market its products under the Prizm brand. The Prizm range includes text-based function key HMIs, touchscreen graphical HMIs, and programmable products that combine touchscreen and function keys with ladder programming and I/O. Renu`s customers include Fuji Electric, GE Fanuc, Idec, Toshiba and Omron.

• Asco Joucomatic has opened a custom design and assembly facility near Wolverhampton to cater for the growing demand for more high-tech pre-assembled automation systems and control cabinets.

• A new company, Teseo UK, has been formed to distribute the aluminium compressed air, vacuum and fluid pipework products of the Italian manufacturer, Teseo. Teseo`s HBS system was marketed previously in the UK by Ingersoll-Rand, under the name Simplair. The new Essex-based company`s managing director is Pat Connolly, who is also MD of Chelmer Pneumatics and Compressors.

• Farnell InOne has launched a free service to match products in a Bill of Materials (BOM) list to products that comply with the forthcoming RoHS legislation. Engineers can email their BOMs in an Excel spreadsheet format to the company which says that it will match the list to RoHS-compliant products in less than 48 hours.

• Universal joints produced by the US manufacturer Belden are now available in the UK following the appointment of Powerdrive SSR, based in Leamington Spa, as its UK distributor.
