Danfoss aims to take the water industry lead

Danfoss has set its sights on becoming the drives market-leader in the UK water and waste water industry. Until now, its penetration of this sector has been limited by the lack of suitable pump drives, but it is confident that a new range of compact, high-power drives, developed and produced in the US, will help to achieve its goal.

"We will be taking a highly focused approach to this market and anticipate annual sales growth in excess of 15% - a rate of growth being achieved by these new drives in other markets," says John Martin, Danfoss` strategic business area manager for Northern Europe. The company is setting up an expanded sales team to target the UK water industry, headed by Craig Rapson (shown above, left, with John Martin), who has joined Danfoss from Fraser McDonald.

Danfoss claims that the new Aqua pump drives offer the highest power density and efficiency on the market. They have been tailored to meet the needs of water applications, and incorporate dedicated programmable functions.

For example, the drives can control either of two motors for duty/standby operation. A timer allows the user to select the run-time for the duty pump before the drive switches automatically to the stand-by pump to even out wear.

A pipe-fill mode controls the fill-up of pump systems at start-up, to avoid water hammer and the potential damage that this can cause. The closed-loop function allows the fill rate and a filled pressure set-point to be programmed.
