Push-in terminals ‘halve wiring times and simplify panels’
Published:  30 May, 2018

Rockwell Automation has announced a family of terminal blocks that, it claims, will improve connections and simplify panel designs. It adds that the Allen-Bradley Bulletin 1492-P push-in terminal blocks will halve wiring times, reduce maintenance and increase the reliability of the connections.

In the past, spring-clamp screw terminal blocks with unsecured wires could result in loose connections. The new, vibration-proof terminal blocks incorporate a clamp to secure loose wiring and to achieve a safe connection point, while saving space. The front-facing terminals are said to improve sight-lines and access for wiring compared to traditional screw-clamp terminal blocks.

“Older connection technologies required users to tighten screws manually to a specific torque and continuously check that the torque is in place after transit,” explains Rockwell business manager, Darren Miller. “The new push-in terminal blocks provide quick and reliable connections without requiring screwdrivers or other tools for wire installation. Users can expect a total time savings of more than 50% compared to previous models.”

The power distribution and signal/sensor application-specific terminal blocks have colour-coded plastic actuators, which act as visual indicators for proper wiring inside the electrical panel. The actuators also reduce potential shock hazards with a finger-safe design that prevents access to live metal components.

The terminal blocks have built-in test ports, allowing users to monitor voltage and current easily. With many factories using a variety of different power levels, the test point verifies that each terminal is operating with the appropriate voltage, avoiding the need to insert probes manually.

The push-in terminal blocks can also be used with wiring ferrules to enhance efficiency and connection quality. Twin-ferrule options are available for using two wires per connection. The terminal blocks have been tested and approved for use with Panduit ferrules. A ferrule selection guide is available to identify the recommended ferrule for the selected wire size and terminal block.
