IP66-protected variable-speed drives can be used outdoors
Published:  15 June, 2017

At the 2017 Hannover Fair, the Welsh drives-maker Invertek unveiled a range of IP66-protected variable-speed drives that can be used outdoors. It was also demonstrating an app that allows users of its Optidrive VSDs to commission and monitor their equipment from their smartphones via a wireless Bluetooth link.

The Optidrive E3 IP66 Outdoor Rated VSDs come in four frame sizes with outputs up to 22kW. They don't need protective cabinets and can be mounted on machines. The default settings are suitable for most applications, and 14 basic set-up parameters simplify any adjustments. There are preset modes for industrial, fan or pump operation that optimise the set-up at the touch of a button.

The drives can be used to control induction, permanent magnet, brushless DC or synchronous reluctance motors. They support EtherNet/IP as standard.

The new Optitools Mobile app, available for Android and IoS devices, provides commissioning, programming, real-time monitoring and parameter back-up functions. The app is supported by a new communication and parameter-copying module called Optistick Smart that plugs into the front of a drive and to allow wireless real-time monitoring on a smartphone, laptop or Bluetooth-enabled PC.
