Germany’s Lammers group buys UK motors firm, Exico
Published:  31 March, 2016

The German motors and drives group Clemens Lammers has acquired the Wellingborough-based motors specialist Exico Electric Motors for an undisclosed sum. Following the acquisition, the Exico name will continue to be used. No changes to personnel, customer or supplier relationships, or computer systems are planned.

Lammers, which was founded 70 years ago, has its headquarters in Rheine in Westphalia. It also has a major base in Budapest, Hungary. As well as supplying motors and drive systems, the group also maintains and repairs large motors and has a controls and automation subsidiary. Lammers has around 175 employees and stocks more than 80,000 motors in over 10,000m2 of warehouse space.

The Exico business was reborn last year after an absence of ten years, following its acquisition in 2004 by the Dutch motor-maker Rotor, which was itself acquired in 2010 by the US motors giant Regal Beloit. Jerry Hodek, who ran Exico previously, became technical director of Regal’s UK operation but left in 2014 to re-establish Exico.

“The expertise and experience available through the combined Exico-Lammers team is exceptional,” says Hodek. “Together, Exico and Lammers are bigger, stronger, and better positioned technically, as well as financially, to provide a better service and practical help to our customer base.”

Hodek: bigger, stronger and better positioned

As well as motors, Exico and Lammers will offer complementary products such as variable-speed drives, soft-starts, generators, gearboxes and couplings. They will also offer systems-building, testing, repair and maintenance services.

Exico will introduce the enlarged group at April’s Drives & Controls Show.
