End-to-end engineering suite is based on Codesys 3
Published:  06 August, 2015

Wago has announced an integrated engineering tool that supports the entire automation development process, from software design through to machine operation. The e!Cockpit tool, based on the Codesys 3 platform, is said to allow automation tasks to be implemented and run more quickly and cost-effectively.

It can handle topologies ranging from simple I/O modules to entire networks. Wago says that end-to-end data storage and a uniform appearance will simplify projects and help to identify errors more quickly.

The first controller to work with the new software is Wago’s PFC200 from its fieldbus-independent, distributed Wago-I/O-System 750 family, which includes more than 400 digital, analogue and specialty I/O modules.

The PFC200 controllers offer simultaneously usable communication interfaces including RS-232/-485, Ethernet, CANopen, Profibus DP and Modbus. They are based on the open, real-time Linux operating system.

Depending on the application, users can choose between a variety of fieldbus couplers and PLCs that support different protocols. e!Cockpit will allow PFC200 applications to be programmed using familiar IEC 61131 editors from Codesys 3.

Wago's e!Cockpit software can be used to program systems based on its PFC200 controllers

The software’s functions include application planning, configuration, parameterisation and programming based on IEC 61131, and it can be used to design modern visualisation tools. As well as target-oriented commissioning, it can display network topologies graphically and allows users to configure them directly from this view. Context-sensitive menu prompts offer only those functions that are relevant to the current task.

The Codesys standard supports six different programming languages (IL, LL, FBD, ST, FC, CFC). It is under continuous development and the software is reusable. Wago is also transferring IEC libraries and add-ons from other software packages.

A free 30-day trial version of e!Cockpit can be downloaded from Wago’s Web site.
