Applimotion has been designing and producing direct-drive rotary motors, linear motors and actuators for more than 15 years. It specialises in direct-drive frameless motors, air-core linear and arc motors, motor components and actuators, for applications that need precise, dynamic motion control.
GSI says that the acquisition will enhance its strategic position in precision motion control, allowing it to offer a wider range of motion control technologies and integrated systems.
“We believe the combination of Applimotion and GSI's MicroE Systems businesses represent a compelling combination of technology and application expertise, enabling GSI to better drive differentiated performance for our customers while enhancing the company's organic growth,” says GSI CEO, John Roush. “The founders of Applimotion have built an excellent franchise. The addition of the Applimotion technology and expertise broadens our capabilities and increases our penetration at existing customers in the growing precision motion control space, in applications such as surgical and industrial robotics, automation, and metrology.”
GSI supplies precision photonics and motion control components and subsystems to OEMs in the medical equipment and advanced industrial technology markets. A year ago it bought the machine vision specialist Jadak Technologies for $93.5m.
MicroE Systems has been designing miniature optical encoders and working with OEMs to engineer precision motion control system for more than 20 years.
