AKH has sites in Homberg and Dresden, and employs around 190 people. Its revenues in 2013 were around €14.4m.
WEG says that the acquisition will expand its research and development activities in high-speed machines, as well as strengthening its market position for efficient industrial motors. It will also help to cut lead times for special motors.
This is the second acquisition WEG has made in Germany in 2014. In February, it bought the electric motor and gearbox manufacturer, Württembergishe Elektromotoren (which was also known as WEG).

AKH was formed in 2002 when Katt Motoren (founded in 1924) merged with its new product development subsidiary, AKS. It produces three phase asynchronous (squirrel-cage and slip-ring) and synchronous motors, with axle heights from 90–500mm, in ratings up to 1MW. It specialises in high-speed machines capable of speeds up to 20,000 rpm. It has delivered more than two million motors.
At the recent SPS IPC Drives show in Germany, AKH launched ranges of ultra-compact water-cooled motors, high-speed (18,000 rpm) synchronous motors up to 170kW, and high-performance drives for pumps up to 650kW.
