One potential attraction for WEG is that Württembergische Elektromotoren GmbH has also been known (mainly in Germany) as WEG, causing some confusion for potential customers. This confusion should disappear when they are the same company.
The previously family-owned business was founded in 1939 to make starter motors, employs around 80 people with recorded net revenues of about €7m in 2013. It has a 5,000m2 manufacturing plant in Balingen, 75km from Stuttgart.
WEG says that the benefits of the acquisition include the possibility of offering an extended line of gearboxes in Europe. WEG entered this market in 2011 when it acquired Watt Drive in Austria.

According to Siegfried Creutzfeldt, managing director of WEG’s motors division in Brazil, the acquisition will give his company “access to a very interesting customer base directly in an industrial centre of Europe”.
