Up to 64 integrated servodrives can be powered from one supply

At the recent Hannover Fair, Danfoss unveiled an integrated servodrive based on a permanent-magnet synchronous motor sharing an enclosure with the drive electronics. The VLT ISD 510 drives cover rated torques from 1.7–15Nm and are equipped with Ethernet-based EtherCat and Powerlink communications.

The drives are powered by a cabinet-mounted “servo access box” (SAB) which generates the 600V DC supply and has a 7.5kW power rating. Depending on the application, two separate output lines can supply up to 32 drives each, for a maximum of 64 drives per SAB, saving installation space significantly. The SAB uses Danfoss' Local Control Panel (LCP) for commissioning, diagnostics and service support.

A master encoder can be connected directly to the SAB. The first drive in a chain is controlled via a hybrid power cable that carries the 600V supply voltage, 24V DC and the drive bus. The signals are looped from one motor to the next, eliminating the need for separate feedback cables or additional connection boxes. The initial versions of the drives are equipped with Safe Torque Off (STO) and functional safety enhancements are planned.

The drives enclosures are protected to IP67 and the shaft seals to IP65. There is a choice of four flange sizes. Users can choose between resolvers, or single- or multi-turn absolute encoders, for feedback. An optional magnetic brake can hold a position in the event of a power failure.

The drive is configured using IEC 61131-3 programming software which includes function libraries for cams discs, synchronisation and motion functions.
