Custom bearing assemblies are supplied ready to fit
Published:  25 April, 2013

igus UK has launched a service to supply complete bespoke bearing assemblies, thus saving time and money for customers. The company will manufacture housings to customer’s drawings and specifications, fit them with igus plastic bearings, and supply the complete assemblies ready to install.

Any igus bearing can be fitted into a housing made from various materials including aluminium, stainless steel, titanium and engineering plastics.

To use the service, called speedifit, a customer simply emails their assembly and housing drawings to igus, and they receive a quote – usually within 24 hours.

The assembly is delivered ready to install, within a lead-time that depends on the material, the complexity, and the quantity required, but will usually be 5–10 working days. There is no minimum order, and customers can order any number of parts.

The cost of the assemblies depends on the individual requirements, the materials used, and the order size.

“Manufacturers are increasingly looking for bespoke parts, but at a more cost-effective price,” says igus director, Matthew Aldridge. He adds that igus will work closely with customers to make savings “by, for example, changing a machined stainless-steel bearing housing to a casting, and supplying this as a speedifit assembly.”

The new service will run alongside igus’ existing manufacturing services, including the speedimold rapid prototyping and injection moulding service, and the speedicut rapid machining service.
